Pinegrove School hosts 13th Major Jagpal Basketball Tournament

DHARAMPUR, Apr 30: Pinegrove School, Dharampur, proudly hosted the grand opening of the 13th All India Major Jagpal Memorial Junior Inter Public School Basketball Tournament for Boys and Girls on April 29. The event took place at the prestigious Wg. Cdr. S. S. Gyani Memorial Sports Centre, bringing together top-tier basketball talent from schools across the country.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Munish Sharma, General Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Basketball Association and Executive Member of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), inaugurated the tournament. He was joined by Guest of Honour, Ajay Kumar Sud, Vice-President of the BFI. Their presence lent prestige and encouragement to the young athletes participating in the tournament.
A total of nine renowned schools from across India are participating in the tournament, including: Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Daly College, Indore, Mayo College, Ajmer, Strawberry Fields High School, Chandigarh, The Punjab Public School, Nabha, The Shri Ram School, New Delhi, Welham Boys' School, Dehradun and Welham Girls' School, Dehradun

The event began with the oath-taking ceremony, led by Sports Prefect Ashika Sharma, reaffirming the values of sportsmanship, integrity, and fair play.
In his inspiring inaugural address, the Chief Guest praised the initiative for promoting youth development through sports and officially declared the tournament open.
In the opening matches, Pinegrove School claimed a solid victory over Strawberry Fields High School with a score of 44-28, while Daly College outplayed Bishop Cotton School 43-30, setting an energetic tone for the tournament ahead.
The tournament continues over the coming days, with all eyes on the courts as young athletes compete for glory, camaraderie, and the cherished Major Jagpal Memorial Trophy.
