Early Times Report
REASI, Apr 30: In a significant crackdown on drug-related crimes, District Police Reasi has attached immovable property worth approximately Rs 15.35 lakhs belonging to a notorious drug smuggler, Makhan Lal S/O Chuni Lal R/O Chak Katwalta, Ramnagar A/P Chak Bhagta, Katra. The action has been taken under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The property, located at Village Chak Bhagta and falling under Khasra No. 108, was identified as illegally acquired during a thorough investigation and inquiry conducted by SHO Police Station Katra, Insp. Khatimaan Khajuria, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr Bhishm Dubey JKPS and Addl. SP Katra Vipan Chandran JKPS and overall command of SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh-JKPS.
During the investigation, it came to light that the said property was purchased through proceeds derived from the illicit narcotics trade. Subsequently, District Police Reasi invoked Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act, 1985, which empowers law enforcement to attach properties believed to be acquired through drug trafficking.
The seizure was carried out in the presence of revenue officials, reinforcing the District Police's zero-tolerance policy towards drug smuggling and its resolve to hit drug peddlers where it hurts the most - their illegally earned assets.
Makhan Lal is already involved in Case FIR No. 39/2025/U/S 8/18 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Katra. Today's action marks a significant step in dismantling the financial networks of narcotics traffickers operating in the District Reasi.
District Police Reasi remains committed to eradicating the menace of drugs and appeals to the public to support law enforcement agencies by sharing information about such unlawful activities.
