JAMMU, Apr 30: Rajat Singh Charak, son of the soil and a rising star in Wushu, has brought laurels to the nation and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir by clinching the silver medal at the prestigious Sanda World Cup held in Jiangyin, China.
Competing in the men's under-85 kg category, Rajat showcased exceptional skill and resilience, advancing to the finals where he narrowly lost to his Australian opponent to secure the silver medal. His qualification for the World Cup was based on his outstanding performance at the 10th Asian Wushu Championship held in Macau, China, in 2024, where he also won a silver medal.
Rajat, who serves in the Indian Army and is currently posted in Shillong, has been a consistent performer at national and international levels, with numerous medals to his name at national championships. His latest achievement has also earned him qualification for the Asia Cup scheduled to be held in Jiangyin, China, from July 2-8, 2025.
The Wushu Association of J&K gave Rajat a warm welcome at Jammu upon his return. Association President Sh. Vijay Saraf and Dronacharya Awardee & National Chief Coach Kuldeep Handoo felicitated him for his historic achievement. Saraf praised Rajat's dedication and wished him success at the upcoming Asia Cup, while Coach Handoo expressed confidence that Rajat would go on to win India's first-ever gold medal in the Asia Cup.
International fencer Rashid Ahmed was also present during the felicitation ceremony and extended his best wishes to Rajat for continued success. Rajat's success story stands as an inspiration for young athletes from J&K and a proud moment for the entire nation.
