Early Times Report JAMMU, May 3: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has hailed the Modi Government's decision to impose a complete ban on the import and transit of goods from Pakistan, terming it a strategic and timely move in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Speaking after the meeting held at Party headquarters in Jammu, the BJP stalwart said the terror incident in Pahalgam, which led to the loss of innocent lives, has once again exposed Pakistan's deep-rooted involvement in sponsoring cross-border terrorism. "This ban is a firm and appropriate response. The message is clear-India will not maintain any form of engagement, even trade, with a country that harbours terrorism," he stated. Notably, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on Saturday issued a notification inserting a new clause-Para 2.20A-into the Foreign Trade Policy 2023 under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992. It prohibits, with immediate effect, the direct or indirect import and transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan. Kavinder applauded the Centre's swift action, saying it reflects the Modi government's zero-tolerance policy towards terror and unwavering commitment to national security. "Such actions are not just policy shifts, they are strong national statements. The Pahalgam attack demanded a decisive answer-and this ban is one of that answers," he said. He added that economic disengagement from Pakistan is necessary to cut off all indirect support to its terror infrastructure. "We cannot afford to trade with a nation that constantly bleeds our soldiers and civilians. Enough is enough," he remarked. Appealing to the people, especially the trade and business community, the former deputy chief Minister urged full support for the government's decision. "National interest must always come first. The country stands united in its resolve against terrorism," he added. Among those who were present in the meeting included Bali Bhagat former minister, Parmod Kapahi, Suresh Sharma, Rajinder Chib, Kulbhushan Mohtra, Sunil Prajapati and Ishant Gupta were present. |
