Early Times Report JAMMU, May 5: An awareness programme on the newly enacted criminal laws and drug abuse prevention was organized today at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, R.S. Pura. The event aimed to educate students and staff about key reforms in the criminal justice system and the harmful effects of drug use on individuals and society. The programme witnessed the presence of Dr. Ramesh Sharma, HOD DIET Jammu, SHO R.S. Pura Sh. R.S. Parihar, Vice Principal, lecturers, and staff members. Over 70 students actively participated in the session, which focused on fostering legal awareness and promoting responsible behaviour among the youth. During the session, key features of the new criminal laws were explained, including Zero FIR, e-FIR, Preliminary Enquiry, victim-centric provisions, and the mandatory use of scientific and forensic tools in investigations. Emphasis was laid on citizen-friendly reforms and the integration of technology for faster and fairer justice delivery. The speakers also addressed the growing concern of drug abuse among youth, highlighting its damaging effects on health, family, and society. Students were encouraged to adopt a drug-free lifestyle and engage in positive, cultural activities to channel their energy productively and avoid criminal influence. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, strengthening police-public relations, particularly in border areas. The initiative reflects the commitment of Jammu Police and education authorities toward building an informed, responsible, and drug-free youth community. |
