Early Times Report JAMMU, May 6: In a commendable effort to promote both physical wellness and public health awareness, a Mega Yoga Camp and HIV Awareness Camp was successfully organized by the NSS Unit and Red Ribbon Club of GDC Sidhra, in collaboration with the Ayush Department J&K. The event was held at Diamond Public School, Bajalta, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of individuals across age groups. The Mega Yoga Camp was led by expert instructors Ms. Vandana Sharma and Ms. Jyoti Bala from the Ayush Department. They conducted inclusive sessions focused on improving flexibility, enhancing mental well-being, and encouraging a healthier lifestyle. From basic yoga postures to advanced breathing exercises, the camp catered to all skill levels. Alongside the yoga sessions, an HIV Awareness Camp provided vital information and free counseling. Healthcare professionals conducted educational talks, myth-busting sessions, and one-on-one Q&As to raise awareness about HIV prevention, treatment options, and the significance of regular testing. Dr. Himani Bhutyal, Medical Officer and Coordinator of the Yoga Camp, emphasized the importance of such initiatives. "This camp is not just about physical fitness, but about empowering individuals with knowledge and resources to take charge of their health. Yoga builds resilience, and awareness saves lives," she said, highlighting the event's alignment with the upcoming International Yoga Day. The event was praised for taking a holistic approach to health, combining physical fitness with critical awareness of public health issues. The initiative was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Purvaiya Hans, NSS Programme Officer, and Dr. Mussarat Choudhary, Convenor of the Red Ribbon Club, with strong support from their teams and under the guidance of Dr. G.S. Rakwal, Principal of GDC Sidhra. The event was also attended by college faculty members Prof. Shonima Malhotra and Dr. Pooja Sharma, along with Dr. Sarika and Dr. Anita, medical officers from the Ayush Department Bain Bajalta. Faculty members and students of the host school also took part with active support from Mr. Joginder Singh, Principal of Diamond Public School.
