GDC Kathua honours sports achievers of 2024-25 in grand felicitation ceremony

KATHUA, May 6: The Sports Board of Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, organized a grand felicitation ceremony today to honour the college's outstanding student-athletes for their exemplary performances during the academic session 2024-25. The event was held in the college's smart classroom and saw enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students, and the college administration.
The ceremony was graced by the esteemed Principal of the college, Prof. Seema Mir, who attended as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included senior faculty members Dr. Sanjay Karlupia, Prof. Neelam Bhagat, Prof. R. K. Pandita, Prof. Shalini Sharma, Prof. Rakesh Jasrotia, Dr. Ram Singh, and Dr. Yash Paul Sharma.
The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by a soulful Saraswati Vandana. The atmosphere was vibrant with pride as over 80 student-athletes were felicitated for their achievements in a range of sports disciplines, including football, gatka (male & female), badminton, kabaddi, kho-kho (male & female), boxing, wrestling, grappling, handball, powerlifting, and athletics (male & female).
In her welcome address, Prof. Shivani Kotwal, Convener of the Sports Board, detailed the sports activities held throughout the year and highlighted the college's key victories in football (female), gatka (male), and badminton (male). She lauded the dedication and hard work of the athletes who brought laurels to the institution in both inter-college and inter-university tournaments by securing top-three positions.
All the achievers were presented with track suits as a token of appreciation for their outstanding contributions and to motivate them for future endeavors.
In her address, Prof. Seema Mir congratulated the awardees and acknowledged their determination, teamwork, and discipline. "Your achievements have not only brought glory to the college but also set a benchmark for others. Continue to pursue excellence, both on and off the field," she said. Prof. Mir also emphasized the importance of sports in the holistic development of students.
The Sports Board members who played an instrumental role in organizing the event included Dr. Dinesh Jasrotia (Advisor), Prof. Shivani Kotwal (Convener), Prof. Neeraj Gupta, Dr. Gotam Singh, Dr. Shiv Kumar, Dr. Jagmohan Sharma, Dr. Jasvinder Singh, and Prof. Rakhi Malhotra.
