AGENCIES NEW DELHI, May 8: Arushi Kotwal, an outstanding chess player from Doda, was honoured with the prestigious Annual Sports Award for the year 2023-24 at a grand ceremony organized by the University of Delhi. The event was graced by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon'ble Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Government of India, who served as the Chief Guest. The award ceremony, held on May 7 at Delhi University, celebrated the achievements of university athletes across the country. Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, Delhi University, was the Guest of Honour and welcomed the Chief Guest alongside other dignitaries including Prof. Bala Ram Pani, Dean of Colleges; Prof. Shri Prakash Singh, Director, South Campus; Dr. Vikas Gupta, Registrar; Prof. Payal Mago, Director, Campus of Open Learning; and Dr. Anil Kumar Kalkal, Director of Physical Education, Delhi Sports Council. Arushi Kotwal's performance stood out among Delhi University athletes. She was part of the university's women's chess team that won a Silver Medal at the All India Inter-University Chess Championship held at Marwadi University, Rajkot, Gujarat, from January 23 to 25, 2024. Other team members included Poornima, Saina, Anjitha, Ananya, and Tanishka. In addition to her recent silver medal, Arushi has an exceptional track record, having secured Gold Medals in the North Zone Inter-University Chess Championships for three consecutive years-2021, 2022, and 2023. Her consistent excellence and contribution to university-level sports earned her this prestigious recognition, bringing pride not only to Delhi University but also to her hometown, Doda. The award reflects her dedication, discipline, and sporting spirit, and sets an inspiring example for aspiring athletes across the country. |
