Secretary, DLSA Ganderbal holds meeting

GANDERBAL, May 16: A meeting to review the functioning of front offices, Village Legal Care & Support Centres and Legal Aid Clinics was today held in District Ganderbal.
The meeting, chaired by Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal, also assessed the effectiveness of Adhikar Mitras or Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) in delivering legal services to the community.
During the meeting, Secretary, DLSA emphasized to ensure timely provision of free legal aid to every needy person, as and when required, to make sure that no person remains unaware of Government schemes and benefits.
He stressed the need to provide legal assistance to individuals at police stations and educate them about their rights and offer full legal assistance to aggrieved women. Moreover, in filing complaints by the women under the POSH Act, and ensure they are aware of their rights and entitlements.
Secretary DLSA also emphasized to conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns in far-flung areas and to identify children who have dropped out of school due to financial constraints and facilitate their enrollment by taking up the matter with the education department.
Identify senior citizens living in distress or abandoned by their children and provide necessary support and also identify mentally ill persons requiring medical attention and facilitate access to medical care, he remarked.
All Adhikaar Mitras (PLVs) of District Ganderbal attended the meeting.
