Early Times Report JAMMU, May 16: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir observed National Dengue Day (NDD) on May 16, 2025, under the theme "Check, Clean, Cover: Steps to Defeat Dengue." The event was organized under the overall supervision of Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, and guidance from Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, Director Health Services, Jammu. The coordinated efforts were carried out under the administrative leadership of Dr. D. J. Raina, State Malariologist, J&K. A wide range of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities were carried out across the Union Territory to spread awareness on Dengue prevention and control. These included publications in leading newspapers, radio interviews, social media messaging, TV spots, and audio broadcasts on FM channels over the past two days. As part of the campaign, Dr. D. J. Raina addressed an assembly of around 200 Army personnel at Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas, under the civil-army collaboration initiative. IEC material was distributed among soldiers, encouraging them to carry the message home. The Department of Information and Public Relations also presented a Nukkad Natak (street play) to spread awareness in an engaging manner. National Dengue Day was also celebrated at the Provincial Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu, where Dr. Vandhana Dogra, Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Arun Gupta, along with other senior officers, addressed gatherings of AYUSH medical officers. A PowerPoint presentation on integrated strategies for Dengue control was presented, and IEC material was distributed. Awareness rallies, school participation, and community outreach were observed at district and block headquarters across J&K. In urban areas, healthcare institutions led educational drives in schools and conducted house-to-house awareness campaigns. Municipal garbage collection vehicles played Dengue awareness audio messages across Jammu Municipal Corporation areas. Digital displays and banners featuring prevention tips were installed at prominent locations, while social media platforms including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) were actively used to share educational content. The campaign also saw involvement from RBSK (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram) and School Health Teams, who played a vital role in reaching children and families. Print and electronic media provided wide coverage, with scrolling messages on vector-borne disease prevention continuously aired on TV channels.
