Jammu, May 17: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rohiin Chandan has lauded the Narendra Modi government for its visionary policies and resolute decision-making, particularly in strengthening India’s strategic position against Pakistan across multiple fronts. Chandan highlighted the government’s ambitious plans to enhance India’s control over critical water resources, specifically through the proposed expansion of the “Ranbir Canal” on the Chenab River in J&K. This move underscores the Modi administration’s commitment to leveraging India’s geographical and historical advantages to secure national interests while adhering to international agreements. The Ranbir Canal, a 19th-century infrastructure marvel, runs through in J&K Indian territory before reaching Pakistan’s agriculturally vital Punjab province. He asserted that according to informed sources, discussions are underway to double the canal’s length from 60 Kilometers to 120 kilometers, a project that could significantly boost India’s irrigation capacity especially in J&K. Chandan explain in detail length currently, India is permitted to draw a limited amount of water from the Chenab River for irrigation under the Indus Waters Treaty. The proposed expansion would enable India to divert approximately 150 cubic meters of water per second, a substantial increase from the existing 40 cubic meters per second. This enhanced capacity is expected to bolster agricultural productivity in Jammu and Kashmir, empowering local farmers and reinforcing India’s food security. Chandan described the canal expansion as a “masterpiece of strategic planning” that reflects the Modi government’s ability to balance development with national security. “Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has consistently demonstrated boldness and foresight. The Ranbir Canal project is not just about irrigation; it’s about asserting India’s rights and ensuring our resources benefit our people first,” he stated. He emphasized that the project complies with the Indus Waters Treaty, showcasing India’s commitment to international obligations while maximizing its permissible water usage. Rohiin emphasized the expansion, a proud legacy of the Dogra Maharaja’s vision, is expected to empower farmers, reduce dependency on erratic weather patterns, and secure food production in the region. Furthermore, Chandan added that the Ranbir Canal, a lifeline for farmers in Marh, Ranbir Singh Pura, Suchetgarh, Bishnah, and Ramgarh areas of Samba district, supports the cultivation of world-renowned Basmati rice. The expansion will significantly enhance irrigation reach, benefiting Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts by providing a reliable water supply to agricultural lands. “This initiative marks a transformative step for Jammu and Kashmir’s agrarian economy, ensuring sustainable farming and increased productivity,” said Chandan. He also praised the Modi government’s holistic approach, citing its success in diplomacy, defense, and infrastructure development as evidence of India’s rising global stature. He urged citizens to support the government’s initiatives, which he described as pivotal for India’s prosperity and security. |
