REASI, May 22: In a major breakthrough against the menace of bovine smuggling, Reasi Police has successfully foiled two separate smuggling attempts, rescued 22 bovines and arrested the accused in both cases. The proactive action is part of the district police's ongoing mission to eradicate bovine smuggling through coordinated intelligence and swift enforcement.
In the first incident, acting on a specific input received at Police Station Reasi, a team from Police Post Talwara intercepted two smugglers attempting to illegally transport bovines from Village Patta towards Kashmir on foot. The accused Mohd Mussa S/O Firoz Din and Mohd Shakeel S/O Mohd Yousuf both residents of Village Kansi Patta, Reasi, were apprehended near Zero Morh, leading to the rescue of 20 bovine animals.
An FIR bearing No. 90/2025 under sections 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Reasi. Further investigation is underway to unearth the broader network involved in this illegal trade.
The operation was led by Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, SHO P/S Reasi, under the close supervision of Dy.SP Headquarters Reasi Vishal Singh Jamwal and Addl. SP Reasi Iftkhar Ahmed, JKPS.
In a separate case, Police Station Arnas received credible input regarding illegal transportation of bovines from Thuroo towards Kashmir through a vehicle bearing Registration No. JK20A-7562. A swift action team apprehended the accused Deepak Thakur S/O Gulail Singh R/O Thuroo, Tehsil Arnas and rescued 02 bovine animals being smuggled without the requisite permission from the District Magistrate.
A case under FIR No. 25/2025 U/S 223 BNS has been lodged at Police Station Arnas and investigation has been initiated. This operation was executed under the leadership of Inspector Sumit Magotra, SHO P/S Arnas, supervised by SDPO Arnas Updesh Kumar.
Paramvir Singh, JKPS, Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, while speaking on the operations, stated, "Reasi Police has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards bovine smuggling. Our teams are executing a multi-pronged strategy involving preventive surveillance, community intelligence and decisive enforcement. Strict legal action will be taken against all involved in this illegal trade and efforts will continue to break the supply chains operating in the region."
Reasi Police remains committed to safeguarding animal rights and maintaining law and order across the district. Community members are urged to continue supporting the police with actionable information to help root out such crimes from society.
