Bovine smuggling bid foiled in Billawar, six animals rescued | | | Early Times Report BILLAWAR, May 23: In a swift action, the Billawar Police foiled a bovine smuggling attempt and rescued six animals being transported in a cruel manner. The operation was led by Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, SHO Billawar, under the supervision of SDPO Billawar, Shri Neeraj Padyar. The incident occurred when a Bolero pickup truck (Reg No. JK03P-6909), traveling from Phinter towards Udhampur, was intercepted by the police at a checkpoint. During the inspection, it was found that six bovine animals were tied tightly with ropes and crammed inside the vehicle in a highly inhumane condition. The driver failed to produce any valid documents or permission for transporting the animals, confirming the illegal nature of the activity. Acting promptly, police registered a case FIR No. 73/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
