Ration Scam Uncovered in Mandi: MLA Ajaz Jan Takes Swift Action
5/24/2025 9:30:44 PM
Early Times Report

Poonch, May 24: A major ration distribution scam has been uncovered at the Food Store in Dhara Block, Sathra Tehsil of Mandi, Poonch. The issue came to light after local Panchayat members and residents raised serious concerns about ration shortages and possible irregularities in distribution. Responding promptly, Hon’ble MLA Poonch, Mr. Ajaz Jan, conducted an immediate inspection of the store.
During the on-site assessment, MLA Jan discovered that the ration stock, officially marked for delivery before 10th May 2025, had only been delivered on 24th May.
Even more alarmingly, the delivery challan was backdated to 10th May, indicating deliberate attempts to cover up the delay.
Upon checking, several ration bags purported to contain 50 kg of food grains were found to be underweight, containing only 38 to 44 kg. The shortfall raised red flags, suggesting large-scale fraud and mismanagement, particularly affecting Below Poverty Line (BPL) families who rely heavily on these supplies.
Following discussions with the store dealer and testimonies from local residents, MLA Jan immediately escalated the matter to the Minister’s Office, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch, Superintendent of Police (SP) Poonch, and Assistant Director, CAPD Poonch. Taking swift action, the DDC instructed the Tehsildar (Magistrate) Mandi and SHO Mandi to carry out a formal inquiry.
In the presence of the Magistrate, a detailed inspection of the store was conducted. All ration bags were weighed, and delivery records were examined. The store has now been sealed, and select ration bags were seized and handed over to Police Station Mandi as evidence.
MLA Ajaz Jan directed the Magistrate to initiate strict legal action against all individuals involved in the scam. He also instructed the SHO to file an FIR and proceed with a thorough investigation.
Local residents expressed their appreciation for the MLA’s decisive action and the administration’s responsiveness. MLA Jan reassured the public that he will personally monitor ration distribution in other areas of his Haveli Constituency to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability.
“This kind of exploitation of the poor will not be tolerated. I stand with the people, and I will make sure justice is served,” stated MLA Ajaz Jan.
