Maiden National Yoga Olympiad 2025 organises
5/25/2025 10:19:53 PM

early times report

KISHTWAR, May 25: The National Yoga Olympiad 2025, a prestigious event showcasing the best of yoga, was organised today by the District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIET) Kishtwar.
The initiative taken by NCERT on behalf of the Ministry of Education (MoE) aims to promote yoga in schools.
Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kishtwar Shagun Parihar, inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest.
Chief Education Officer Masood Hussain Qazi; Principal GHSS Girls, Radha Rani; and Zonal Education Officer Shahnawaz Ahmed, also attended the function as special guests.
In her inaugural address, the Chief Guest encouraged the participants and explained the importance of the theme of National Yoga Olympiad (NYO) 2025 — "Yoga for Health and Harmony," which aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle and promote well-being among learners.
Earlier, DNO for the “National Yoga Olympiad,” Sanjay Sharma, invited Sr. Academic Officer Riaz Ahmed Giri for the welcome address, while In-Charge Principal DIET Riaz Ahmed Butt apprised the audience about the event.
The district-level competition witnessed a massive participation of nearly 100 students from middle and secondary schools of the District.
Students performed in different categories including Classes VI–VIII and IX–X (both boys and girls separately). All activities under the syllabus, including asanas (body postures), were demonstrated by participants under the overall supervision of DNO, DIET Sanjay Sharma.
It is pertinent to mention that the National Yoga Olympiad – 2025 was started by NCERT in 2016 as a follow-up to the International Day of Yoga observed every year on June 21. The promotion of yoga has become an integral part of NCERT activities to strengthen cultural moorings and uphold the country’s heritage, which emphasizes a healthy and wholesome life. The National Education Policy 2020 envisions instilling in learners a deep-rooted pride in being Indian — in thought, spirit, and intellect. Guiding the younger generation toward harmony, peace, and love through yoga is of utmost importance.
The jury members, comprising Daleep Kumar (Lecturer, HSS Kuchhal), Anoop Sharma (Master, High School Galigarh), Richa Mohan (Teacher, Middle School Bhoop Nagar), Sanjay Kumar Parihar (Master, MS Kundali), and Yoga Expert Kishori Lal Wazir, evaluated each team with dedication and selected 16 candidates for the next level of competition.
Prominent citizens, Academic Officers, staff members of DIET Kishtwar, faculty from various educational institutions, escort teachers, and ZNOs were present during the yoga competition.
The 16 winners at the district level in Classes VI–VIII (girls & boys) and Classes IX–X (secondary level) will now compete in the divisional-level competition, followed by the national-level event to be held in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.
