Ex-Servicemen Association holds monthly meeting | | | Early Times Report AKHNOOR, May 26: The monthly meeting of the Ex-Servicemen Association was held with great enthusiasm at Gurha Jagir Panchayat, Akhnoor, under the chairmanship of Naval veteran Lakhbir Singh Sohal. The gathering witnessed the launch of a membership drive and saw the participation of a large number of ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, and widows. Senior ex-serviceman Rameshwar Dutt graced the occasion as the chief guest. The meeting began with a solemn tribute to the martyrs of Operation Sandur. A moment of silence was observed in their memory, reaffirming the association's commitment to honouring the sacrifices of India's bravehearts. Chairman Lakhbir Singh Sohal emphasized the vital role ex-servicemen continue to play in society as leaders, mentors, and champions of peace. The participants discussed ways in which veterans could support local communities, uphold national values, and promote unity. Key issues concerning the welfare of ex-servicemen were brought to the fore during the meeting. The attendees strongly advocated for the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP), Military Service Pay (MSP), and disability pension, underlining their significance in ensuring dignity and justice for those who served. A heartfelt appeal was also made for enhancing widow pensions, recognizing the immense sacrifices made by the families of martyred soldiers. The widows in attendance were lauded for their strength and resilience, with calls for increased support and benefits. Another major concern raised was the inadequacy of facilities at Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) polyclinics. Participants called for immediate upgrades in infrastructure and services to ensure that veterans receive quality healthcare without hurdles. In response to recent incidents of disrespect and mistreatment of servicemen and ex-servicemen across the country, the assembly unanimously passed a resolution demanding the formation of an Ex-Servicemen Commission. The proposed commission would serve as a dedicated platform to address the grievances of veterans and strengthen their communication with the government. The meeting concluded with renewed solidarity among the attendees, who pledged to continue advocating for the rights and welfare of all ex-servicemen and their families. |
