The escalating challenge of substance abuse in Jammu and Kashmir has prompted a robust and multifaceted response under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). This nationwide initiative has been tailored to address the unique socio-cultural dynamics of the Union Territory, fostering a comprehensive approach that encompasses education, community engagement, and rehabilitation. In the Jammu district, a series of awareness programs have been conducted across various Government Higher Secondary Schools. These events aim to educate students and the broader community about the detrimental effects of substance abuse, promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Activities such as street plays, poetry recitations in local dialects, and motivational talks have been instrumental in engaging participants and disseminating the anti-drug message effectively. The Kashmir Valley has witnessed similar proactive measures. In Handwara, the police organized a debate competition on the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,” encouraging students to articulate their views on the growing menace of drug addiction and the collective responsibility of society in eradicating this threat. At the University of Kashmir, a speech competition titled “Breaking the Chains of Addiction: Empowering Youth and Communities for a Nasha Mukt Bharat” was held, emphasizing the pivotal role of youth in combating substance abuse. District administrations across the region have been instrumental in implementing the NMBA. In Kishtwar, a significant training session was organized to train 700 individuals as resource persons to conduct Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns against drugs. These trained individuals are expected to spearhead over 200 events across all Panchayats, Revenue villages, and Municipal wards, aiming to raise awareness and educate the public on the detrimental effects of drug abuse. The district administrations across J&K have launched a mega IEC campaign focusing on awareness, rehabilitation, and long-term support for those affected by substance abuse. The initiative includes awareness rallies, cultural events, community engagements, and interactive sessions across various panchayats, municipalities, and educational institutions. The campaign underscores the importance of not stigmatizing victims but supporting them with empathy and aiding their rehabilitation. The collective efforts under the NMBA in Jammu and Kashmir reflect a comprehensive strategy to combat the drug menace. By integrating educational initiatives, community participation, and rehabilitation programs, the region is fostering a resilient front against substance abuse. The success of these campaigns hinges on sustained commitment, inter-departmental coordination, and the active involvement of all societal segments. As these initiatives continue to evolve, they offer a blueprint for other regions grappling with similar challenges, emphasizing that a united, compassionate, and informed approach is vital in the fight against drug abuse. |
