Early Times Report THATHRI, May 27: Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Thathri organised an awareness camp in Village Barshalla, Panchayat Barshalla, focusing on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It is worth mentioning that the Red Ribbon Club has adopted the village of Barshalla with the objective of spreading awareness, particularly among the youth, about HIV-its causes, effects, prevention-and other related infections. The entire programme was held under the overall supervision and guidance of the College Principal, Dr. Javid Iqbal Zargar. The resource person for the event was Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, who in his address emphasized the urgent need to recognize the threat of sexually transmitted infections, especially HIV, which currently affects 39.9 million people globally. Alarming statistics from India reveal that, according to the latest 2023-24 data, around 16.90 lakh people are HIV positive, including 8.70 lakh men, 8 lakh women, and the rest belonging to the transgender community. Members of the civil society also took part in the campaign, demonstrating their commitment to creating an STI-free society. The villagers actively participated, shared their views, and pledged to raise full awareness in Barshalla about such dangerous diseases. The event was efficiently organised and managed by Prof. Deepak Raj, Nodal Officer of the Red Ribbon Club. In his vote of thanks, he expressed gratitude to the attendees, especially Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed and Prof. Arshad Ayoub, Head of the Political Science Department, for their valuable presence and support. He also appreciated the efforts of the organising committee for making the event a grand success. |
