BHADERWAH, May 27: A significant milestone in the academic and cultural landscape of Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, was achieved today with the formal inauguration of the Six-Month Certificate Course in Music under the School of Education.
The inauguration ceremony, held in an impressive function at the campus, was graced by Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector Bhaderwah Campus, as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering of faculty members, students and staff, Rector Bhaderwah Campus Prof. Rahul Gupta lauded the initiative and emphasized the importance of integrating arts and music into mainstream education. He highlighted how the introduction of this course reflects the campus's commitment to holistic education that nurtures not only intellect but also artistic sensibilities. "Music has the power to uplift minds and connect cultures. With this course, we aim to provide a structured platform for students to explore and refine their musical talents," he stated.
Prof. Rahul Gupta further expressed confidence that the Six-Month Certificate Course in Music will emerge as a unique offering in the region, encouraging the youth to pursue their creative passions alongside academic excellence. He added that such initiatives are crucial in preserving the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and promoting it among the younger generation through formal training and performance-based learning.
Dr. Kuljit Singh, Academic Coordinator and In-charge of the Music Course, presented a detailed overview of the program. He explained that the Six-Month Certificate Course in Music is designed to provide a strong foundation in both the theoretical and practical dimensions of music. The course, which is open to candidates who have passed matriculation (10th grade), will follow bi-annual admission cycles in April and October. The evaluation will comprise written, oral and concert-based assessments, ensuring a well-rounded musical education.
Dr. Kuljit Singh also emphasized that the course has been carefully structured to balance classical traditions with contemporary musical expressions, thereby catering to a wide range of student interests. He added that the inclusion of expert instructors, hands-on training and exposure to live performances will help students gain confidence, discipline and artistic refinement-qualities that are essential for success in the field of music.
