Early Times Report JAMMU, May 28: In light of the growing global concern over environmental degradation, particularly pollution, the J&K Pollution Control Committee, Samba North, in collaboration with Humanity Public School, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana, successfully organized an insightful and interactive session to commemorate World Environment Day. Themed "Ending Plastic Pollution," the event aimed to sensitize students about the critical need to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices. The program was held in the Multipurpose Hall of Humanity Public School in the esteemed presence of Principal Gaurav Charak, Administrative Officer Ravinder Sadhu, Senior Incharge Akashdeep Raina, Higher Secondary Wing Incharge Parsidh Singh, along with dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students. The session's chief guest was Anil Kumar Sharma, Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Committee, Samba North. He was accompanied by special guests Sampath Singh (Junior Environmental Engineer), Davinder Singh (Field Inspector), and Subhash Chander (Field Inspector), whose presence added great value to the event. The program featured a vibrant mix of student speeches, expert lectures, and interactive discussions. Students including Sneha Sharma, Reetu Attri, Abhi Charak, Mansi Devi, Raksha Karloopia and Shubam Singh of Class 12, and Rohandeep and Vivek Mehra of Class 10, delivered impactful speeches highlighting the dangers of plastic pollution. They spoke on various pollutants-particularly single-use plastics, microplastics, and improper waste disposal-and how these contribute to environmental degradation. The young speakers encouraged their peers to take small yet meaningful steps such as reducing plastic use, opting for reusable materials, and spreading awareness among their communities. In his keynote address, Mr. Anil Kumar Sharma emphasized the urgent need for collective action and highlighted simple yet effective strategies to curb pollution. He reminded the students that "the environment will continue to deteriorate until polluting practices are abandoned," and that "the only solution to pollution is people's humane revolution." The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by the School Principal, Gaurav Charak, who expressed sincere gratitude to the J&K Pollution Control Committee for organizing such a meaningful and educational event. He appreciated the efforts of all guests, staff, and students who contributed to making the session impactful and engaging.
