JMC celebrate World Environment Day across City
5/28/2025 10:04:29 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 28: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is set to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, with a range of events and activities planned throughout the entire city. Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav informed that the corporation is working diligently to ensure city-wide participation in this environmental initiative.
This year's theme focuses on controlling plastic pollution and preventing it from entering water bodies like taps and rivers. Special emphasis is being laid on raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste and encouraging citizens not to dispose of garbage in drains. Plastic use will be actively discouraged, and a citywide campaign is being organized to educate the public about responsible waste management.
In this initiative, Swachhata Champions will be engaged as key partners to mobilize local communities. Citizens will also be encouraged to donate reusable goods at Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centres, which will then be distributed to the needy, combining environmental awareness with social welfare.
Additionally, schools across Jammu will host "Waste to Art" competitions to educate students on the importance of reusing waste materials and inspire creative approaches to sustainability. As part of the 'Hum Badlenge AaDat' programme, nature walks will be conducted to promote the segregation of dry and wet waste among residents and highlight the importance of adopting eco-friendly habits.
Special events will be organized in various wards to strengthen community engagement, and all Swachhata Champions will be brought together at the ward level to lead awareness drives. In a city-wide effort to enhance green cover, a large number of saplings will also be planted at multiple locations across Jammu.
Dr. Devansh Yadav emphasized that these efforts are not just to mark a day, but to instill a lasting culture of environmental responsibility among the people of Jammu. The Municipal Corporation invites all citizens to participate actively and contribute to a cleaner, greener future for the city.
