Reasi police tightens noose on bovine smugglers - 10 bovines rescued; 3 FIRs lodged | | | Early Times Report REASI, May 29: In a significant crackdown on bovine smuggling, Reasi Police has thwarted three separate smuggling bids, rescued 10 bovine animals and arrested all accused involved. The successful operations reflect the district police's unwavering commitment to curbing the menace of illegal cattle transportation through intelligence-based and timely interventions. In two separate operations, Police Station Katra teams intercepted two vehicles (bearing registration numbers JK20B-6452 and JK20B-5221) transporting eight bovines illegally. Both vehicles were seized, and four persons were arrested on the spot. The smugglers have been identified as Mohd Shabir S/O Mohd Rashid R/O Jadh, Mohd Altaf S/O Mohd Munshi R/O Bhaga, Reasi, Kousar Ali S/O Ishtiaq Ahmed R/O Gunn Kheral and Mohd Rashid S/O Mushtaq Ahmed R/O Sailanjan, District Reasi. Accordingly, two cases have been registered FIR No. 154/2025 U/S 223(a) BNS, 11 PCA Act and FIR No. 155/2025 U/S 223(a) BNS, 11 PCA Act at P/S Katra. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the larger network behind these smuggling attempts. These operations were led by Inspector Khyatimaan Khajuria, SHO P/S Katra, under the supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS. Acting on specific intelligence, Police Station Pouni apprehended Raj Kumar S/O Ram Krishna R/O Thanpal (Loudhra), Tehsil Thakrakote, who was transporting two bovine animals on foot via a remote route from Dhanwa towards Srinagar through Thandapani. The alert police team reached the location swiftly, rescued the animals and arrested the accused. A case FIR No. 30/2025 U/S 223 BNS has been registered at Police Station Pouni and further investigation is ongoing. This operation was executed under the leadership of Inspector Sohan Singh Bandral, SHO P/S Pouni, under the close supervision of Dy.SP Headquarters Reasi Vishal Singh Jamwal and Addl. SP Reasi Iftkhar Ahmed, JKPS. SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh, JKPS, lauded the efforts of the police teams and stated, "Reasi Police is following a zero-tolerance policy towards bovine smuggling. Our multi-pronged strategy-comprising preventive surveillance, local intelligence gathering and robust enforcement-is yielding strong results. Those involved in such illegal activities will face strict legal consequences. We remain determined to dismantle the entire ecosystem supporting this unlawful trade." Reasi Police reiterates its commitment to protecting animal rights and upholding the rule of law.
