From Poonch frontline, Amit Shah warns Pak: Any misadventure will be met with force
5/30/2025 11:10:01 PM
Early Times Report

Poonch, May 30: From the border frontline of Poonch, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the Indian Armed Forces gave a strong and effective response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. He said Operation Sindoor was launched to specifically target and destroy terrorist infrastructure across the border.
Shah clarified that the operation was aimed solely at terrorist camps and did not target Pakistani civilians or military personnel. However, he condemned Pakistan for retaliating by shelling civilian areas.
“Pakistan committed a highly condemnable and inhuman act by carrying out intense shelling in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Poonch,” Shah said while addressing a public gathering.
He warned that any attempt to harm India would be met with a firm and decisive response, reaffirming the government's commitment to national security.
“When Pakistan attacked our civilians, the Indian Armed Forces gave a befitting reply and destroyed nine of their airbases,” Shah stated. “It was only after this decisive action that Pakistan approached us with a proposal for a ceasefire.”
Shah praised the Indian military’s swift and strategic retaliation, crediting them with maintaining national security and forcing diplomatic overtures from the other side. His comments come amid rising tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), where recent cross-border shelling has led to civilian casualties and disruption of daily life.
Support for Victims and Assurance of Rehabilitation
During his visit, Shah met with victims and families affected by the shelling in Poonch. He expressed solidarity and promised increased support, including medical assistance, financial relief, and long-term rehabilitation measures.
“The safety and well-being of every citizen—especially in sensitive border regions—is a top priority for the government,” he said.
The Home Minister also reviewed ongoing relief efforts with local authorities and held a high-level meeting with security officials and district administration to assess the situation and strengthen border security infrastructure. He assured the community of comprehensive steps to restore normalcy and safeguard lives.
Visit to Gurdwara Singh Sabha and Outreach to Sikh Community
Shah also visited the Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Poonch, where he interacted with members of the local Sikh community. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare, safety, and peace of all border communities.
“We are fully committed to restoring peace in the region and providing every possible assistance for the rehabilitation of affected families,” he said.
Local leaders and officials briefed the Home Minister on ongoing efforts to bolster border safety and respond to displacement concerns. Community members welcomed his visit and raised issues related to safety and resettlement, which Shah assured would be addressed.
More Bunkers to Be Built for Civilian Protection
In a major announcement, Amit Shah said the Central Government would construct additional bunkers in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir to protect civilians from cross-border shelling along the LoC and International Border (IB).
He expressed deep sympathy with the families who lost loved ones in the recent shelling and recalled that the construction of bunkers began in 2014 after a commitment by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Over 9,500 bunkers have already been built along the LoC and IB to protect civilians. These bunkers played a vital role in saving lives during the recent three-day conflict,” Shah said.
He added that in coordination with the Union Territory administration, the government would accelerate the construction of more bunkers to enhance safety in vulnerable regions.
“Today, I discussed this issue with the Lieutenant Governor and senior officers of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to strengthening border infrastructure.
