World Environment Day: FICCI FLO JKL initiates “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Plantation Drive

Jammu, June 5: FICCI FLO Jammu-Kashmir & Ladakh Chapter today marked World Environment Day with the launch of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam – A Green Tribute to Mother Earth” at the Directorate of Agriculture, Talab Tillo, Jammu.
The event was curate and organised by, Aarti Chowdhary Chairperson FICCI FLO JKL and was led by Varsha Bansal Senior Vice Chairperson in the esteemed presence of Director Agriculture Jammu, Arvinder Singh Reen, Varuna Anand National Initiative Head Partnership and Collaborations, Rupika Sahai Vice Chairperson, Sona Mehta Treasurer, Shipra Aggarwal Joint Treasurer, Pooja Dewan Joint Secretary along with other members and senior officials of Agriculture Department. The initiative aimed to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable living through a hands-on plantation drive and educational sessions on green practices. This initiative not only aligned with FLO’s national theme “The Power to Empower” but also deepened members’ engagement with practical, home-friendly eco solutions.
The event strengthened the collaborative spirit between FLO and the Agriculture Department in working towards a greener, more conscious future.
Director Reen conducted an insightful demonstration on terrace farming with drip irrigation, showcasing how grow bags and rooftop spaces can be utilized for efficient urban agriculture.
FLO members also visited the onsite nursery, gaining knowledge about medicinal and aromatic plants, vegetable cultivation, and biodiversity conservation. A special session on apiculture was conducted by the Head of the Apiculture Division, who shared practical tips on bee farming and identifying pure honey—generating enthusiastic interest among members.
The department assured full support for a dedicated beekeeping workshop in the future.
Another highlight was the display of a tree-planting machine, designed to make afforestation faster and easier. Each attendee received a jade plant in an eco-friendly pot, reinforcing the message of sustainable green gifting.
The drive culminated with the plantation of 100 trees, generously sponsored by FLO member Tanisha Pallan of Iconcept, making it a living tribute to Mother Earth.
Aarti Chowdhary, Chairperson of FICCI FLO JKL, in her message, said, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam is not just a plantation drive—it’s a heartfelt tribute to Mother Earth and a call to action for each one of us to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle.
Through this initiative, we aim to inspire our members to adopt green habits, explore urban farming, and understand the immense value of our natural ecosystems. FLO is committed to empowering women not only economically, but also as changemakers in environmental stewardship.”
She expressed gratitude to the Directorate of Agriculture for their wholehearted support and to all the FLO members whose active participation made the event a meaningful success. Senior officers including DSSO Shri Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Assistant Entomologist Shri Rajesh Verma, Mushroom Development Officer Sh. Raghubir Pal Kochar, Agriculture Chemist Shri Vinod Kumar Sharma, Assistant Agrostologist Shri Amit Sharma, and ASCO (I&P) Shri Rajinder Singh Salathia were present during the event.
