Early Times Report

Jammu, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Gandhi Nagar branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad organized a plantation drive at Gharana.
During the drive, a large number of medicinal plants, such as, Pomegranate (Anar), Bhel, Arjun, Amla, Sukhchain etc. were planted by the members of branch. Students and teachers of the local school were also involved in the drive to inculcate in them love of trees and care for the environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dev Raj Sharma, patron, said that planting trees ensures that the future generations will continue to have clean, healthy air to breath.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Regional Convenor Seva, North Region One, said that trees have enjoyed a very special place in Indian civilization for thousands of years. Centuries ago, our Rishis, Munis, Saints and Seers had realized the health benefits of various trees and had bestowed religious merits on tree worship, which included watering them on special occasions. Great religions were born under the balmy shadows of trees.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sharat Chander Sharma, President, BVP Gandhi Nagar Branch, said that sins of the preceding generations have to be atoned by the coming generations, for which they need to sensitized to environmental issues at an early age so that environment degradation is stopped much before it gets out of hand, and the humanity is saved from annihilation.
Besides the above-mentioned dignitaries, Prant Head Environment Gopal Das Gupta, Branch Secretary Vikas Bhardwaj, Treasurer G L Gupta Ranjan, Vice President Er. Tilak Raj Sharma, Joint Organizing Secretary Chandra Uday Sharma, Seva Pramukh
Rajani Gupta, Mahila Pramukh Mrs. Shashi Abrol, Mrs. Kanta Sharma, Dr. Santosh Gupta, and Students and Staff, Govt. Middle School, Gharana also participated in the plantation drive.
