Early Times Report JAMMU, June 5: The Agriculture Department Jammu, in conversation with members of FICCI FLO, celebrated World Environment Day by planting 100 saplings within the premises of the Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo, Jammu. The plantation drive was led by Shri Arvinder Singh Reen, Director Agriculture Jammu, who was joined by Arti Chowdhary, Chairperson FICCI FLO, Vikrant Dogra, Chairman, JK Dairy Cooperative Federation & UNATI Multi State, as well as other dignitaries, senior officers of the department, and members of FICCI FLO. Among the key participants were Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Divisional Soil Survey Officer; Shri Rajesh Verma, Assistant Entomologist; Raghubir Pal Kochar, Mushroom Development Officer; Vinod Kumar Sharma, Agriculture Chemist; Amit Sharma, Assistant Agrostologist; and Rajinder Singh Salathia, ASCO (I&P), along with other senior officials. On the occasion, Director Agriculture Arvinder Singh Reen spoke about the importance of World Environment Day and stressed the urgent need for environmental stewardship through sustainable agricultural practices. He encouraged all participants to adopt eco-friendly methods in daily life and agriculture. He also shared valuable insights into terrace gardening, highlighting its benefits for urban households in producing organic vegetables. Additionally, he provided FICCI FLO members with a detailed overview of mushroom cultivation, apiculture (beekeeping), and medicinal plant farming, presenting them as viable and eco-sustainable livelihood options. Arti Chowdhary, Chairperson FICCI FLO, thanked the Agriculture Department and lauded the theme of the plantation drive - "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam - A Green Tribute to Mother Earth." She expressed that it was her first experience learning about agricultural activities, and that the visit was enriching for her and the FICCI FLO members. Arti Chowdhary further shared that in the future, FICCI FLO aims to collaborate with the Agriculture Department Jammu to organize agriculture-related workshops specifically for women, empowering them with knowledge and opportunities in the sector. Vikrant Dogra added further significance to the occasion by emphasizing the role of cooperative and multi-sectoral efforts in fostering green initiatives and promoting sustainable agricultural development. |
