Shrine Board's support makes complex cochlear surgeries possible
6/11/2025 11:33:50 PM
Early Times Report
KATRA, June 11: In a deeply moving testament to what faith, compassion, and vision can achieve, three more children with severe hearing impairment were given the gift of sound at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), Kakryal. These life-transforming surgeries were made possible through the unwavering support of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board - a spiritual institution that has continually proven its commitment to social upliftment through healthcare.
All three surgeries were successfully performed by Dr. Rohan Gupta, ENT & Cochlear Implant Surgeon at SMVDNSH, whose expertise continues to bring world-class care to the region. Among the children operated today, one was diagnosed with IP-I (Incomplete Partition Type I) cochlear anomaly - a rare and complex inner ear deformity that poses significant surgical risk. Yet, through precise planning and skillful execution, the surgery was accomplished without complications. "The trust and investment the Shrine Board has placed in healthcare has empowered us to take on even the most complex of cases," said Dr. M. M. Mathavan, Facility Director, SMVDNSH. "Their support goes beyond buildings and machines - it brings hope to families and second chances to children."
As the founder and guiding force behind the hospital, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has consistently championed healthcare access for the most vulnerable. Through its sponsorships, it ensures that no child is denied life-altering treatment simply due to financial constraints.
Shri Anshul Garg (IAS), Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, shared, "Our responsibility doesn't end at spiritual guidance - it extends to serving humanity in every possible way. Today, three children have received more than medical care; they've been given a future. That's the spirit of our mission."
The children will now enter the next phase of their journey: auditory rehabilitation and speech therapy, supported by a dedicated team of specialists. These early interventions are key to integrating the children into mainstream society.
Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME, added, "The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has created a model of healthcare that is both compassionate and cutting-edge. From sponsoring basic care to the most advanced surgeries, their leadership is a beacon for what institutions can achieve when they serve with heart."
With every successful cochlear implant, the Shrine Board's commitment to holistic service is amplified. The hospital stands today not just as a superspeciality centre, but as a living embodiment of the Board's dedication to health, dignity, and inclusion.
In the sacred valley of Katra, where millions arrive seeking blessings, three young voices will soon rise in joy - voices that were once silent, now awakened by the extraordinary compassion and vision of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
