MD JKPDCL Responds Swiftly to Power Crisis in Roop Nagar
6/11/2025 11:35:42 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 11: In a major relief for the residents of Mohalla Duni Chand in Roop Nagar (Ward No. 58), the Managing Director of Jammu & Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) has responded promptly to the area's escalating power crisis, assuring the immediate installation of an additional transformer. The intervention comes in response to a formal representation submitted by Parvinder Singh Happy, curator of Ward No. 58, who highlighted the chronic power outages and repeated transformer failures in the locality. According to Singh, the neighborhood has been grappling with severe electricity issues for the past three years, primarily due to overloaded infrastructure and the absence of comprehensive load assessment.
Currently, only one transformer remains operational in the area, despite two having been installed to meet rising demand. The situation reached a breaking point recently when both transformers failed simultaneously due to excessive load, leaving the locality in complete darkness.
During his meeting with the MD JKPDCL, Singh pointed out the urgent need for a technical survey to evaluate present and future power demand. He also emphasized the role of illegal electricity connections-locally referred to as 'kundis'-in exacerbating the load on existing systems. Singh appealed for not only a new transformer but also the deployment of a vigilance team to tackle unauthorized electricity usage. Taking prompt note of the issues raised, the MD issued immediate directions to the concerned Executive Engineer and Assistant Executive Engineer to inspect the site and facilitate the installation of a second transformer without delay. He further instructed the department to conduct a technical load assessment to enable informed infrastructure upgrades in the future.
The MD's swift response has been met with widespread appreciation from residents, who have been enduring relentless power disruptions, particularly distressing during the ongoing summer season. Locals have expressed their gratitude for the decisive intervention and commended Parvinder Singh Happy for effectively voicing their grievances and ensuring administrative attention at the highest level.
