Thank you for being my father | Happy Father’s Day | | Prof. Poonam Parihar
Mam Prathmo guru; pratyaksh vighanharta pittari pritamapanne sarva:priyanti devta:II (My first Guru, My real Protector. If father is happy then all deities are happy with You!). The quote emphasizes the importance and respect for the father in the Hindu tradition. It highlights that fulfilling the father’s desires is equivalent to honouring all deities. “Father is Dharm, Father is heaven, Father is the ultimate penance. “To lose your father is to lose the one whose guidance and help you seek, who supports you like a tree trunk supports its branches.” You see, my father taught me that even our most profound losses are survivable. And that is—it is what we do with that loss—our ability to transform it into a positive event—that is one of my father’s greatest lessons.” (A journey from 14th April, 1941-8th January, 2025) “You will always be in my heart… because in there you’re still alive.” Father is a pillar of strength, wisdom and unwavering love in a child’s entire life. He shapes their character and values in numerous ways. His selfless support, guidance, and love he provides always prove to be an indelible mark on a child’s entire journey. He is often the embodiment of resilience and compassion, a source of comfort and support in times of need. My father was a quiet giant, a strong pillar in our family. He was the one who always seems to be there, a silent guardian, a dependable source of strength was not one for grand gestures or elaborate expressions, but his love and support shined through his actions. He was a man of few words, but his actions used to speak volumes. I remember him always being there for me, not just when I needed help with homework or advice, but also when I was feeling lost or uncertain. He’d listen patiently, offered a kind word, and help me find my way. His quiet strength was something I admire deeply. He had a gentle way about him, but he was also fiercely protective of his family. He always worked hard to provide for us, and he would always been a role model for me in terms of hard work and perseverance. He was a man of integrity, always doing what was right, even when it was difficult. He taught me the importance of honesty, respect, and kindness. He was also a man of passion, whether it was for his work, his hobbies, or his family. My father’s love was a constant, unwavering presence in my life. He had the one I could always count on, the one I could always turn to for comfort and support. He was more than just my father; he was my hero, my inspiration and my role model. His quiet strength and unwavering love made him a true gem. He was a man I admire and respect, and I’m grateful to Almighty God that he blessed me a father like him in my life. My father played different roles and responsibilities with great honour, versatility, adaptability & competency in different areas of Life. My Father & his Profession: My father’s profession was more than just a job; it was a reflection of his character, his dedication to our family, and his commitment to making a positive impact on the world. He taught us valuable lessons about hard work, integrity, and the importance of pursuing one’s goals with passion and perseverance. I am grateful for the guidance and inspiration he provided to shape his family’s life. Basically, he was the man of Horticulture & moreover the first Ph.D degree holder in the field of Horticulture in the erstwhile state Jammu and Kashmir. He worked in the state department of Agriculture & contributed a lot to the rural people of his Jammu Province especially to the agrarian class & few years after completing of his doctorate degree he joined Agriculture Varsity, erstwhile SKUAST at Shalimar, Kashmir. He was a brilliant researcher, a great academician, excellent teacher & humble & kind hearted extension personnel & dynamic administrator. He was having a great love for nature. He took his profession as worship of God. He only believed in hard work, sincerity, honesty & loyalty. He used to treat his plants as his wards. After doing a lot of work in horticulture at SKUAST-K in Kashmir, he transferred to SKUAST Campus, Udheywalla, Jammu and maintained his legacy. He totally believed in Karmas. He worked in different places and at different positions in Jammu and brought about the positive changes there. He worked in viticulture near about 14 years & brought the new germplasms from different Agri-Universities, campuses and stations from all over the country. He was promoted as the first confirmed Chief-scientist of Jammu province in Horticulture and acted as Head & Chief-Scientist of all the Horticulture Stations of Jammu Province under erstwhile SKUAST, Jammu & Kashmir. He was work alcoholic & believed in positive karmas, that’s why majority of the people used to call him Karmyogi. Even after retirement he only lived in his profession & by his Profession by cultivating horticultural plants organically and distributing the fruits among the people, friends and relatives. He guided so many UG, PG and Ph,D students & published so many research paper & popular articles in the reputed journals. He remained the chairperson & member of several recruitment committees, societies of horticulture & editorial boards within & outside the university. He was very intellectual person of high calibre, one of the most shining stars in the galaxy of scientists of his fraternity. He was appreciated everywhere for his work and for his helping nature. He was also recipient of so many prestigious awards. He was having very good relations with his friends, colleagues, seniors & juniors within and outside his erstwhile state which is reflected by those people whenever they met me. His love and care were more for the deprived, down trodden and discriminated people in the society. A Pillar of Strength and Guidance: He was the Pillar of Strength and Guidance for his family. He was the exemplary father. He was the one who taught children about responsibility, discipline, and the importance of hard work. He guided his children through life’s challenges, offering advice and support when needed. A Source of Love and Comfort: Beyond his practical roles, he played a vital role in nurturing his children’s emotional well-being. He offered a sense of security and belonging, creating a safe and loving environment where children could grow and thrive. When I was too small not just more than the age of 2yrs, he gave me a name, Professor Sundar Lal the great” He always wanted that I should become a professor & he made this to happen. My father was a steadfast source of both love and comfort. He loved me for who I am, flaws and all. He never judged my choices and always supported my ambitions, fostering a sense of security and belonging. He was always been there to listen me, offer words of wisdom and guided me through difficult situations. His presence provided a safe space to process emotions and find strength. He never discriminated between daughters and sons. He loved and groomed me more than my brothers. He always used to say that daughters need to be empowered more. A Bond That Endures: The bond between me and my father was a deep and enduring one. It was a bond built on trust, respect, and shared experiences. It was a bond that transcended time and distance, remaining strong even when circumstances are challenging. Role Model and Mentor for Me & future generations: My father’s love for learning had left a deep impact on me. He was a seeker of knowledge for me. His curiosity and enthusiasm for discovering new things have inspired me so much in my own educational journey. Also, these factors have made a great impact on my personal growth. He taught me that learning is a lifelong journey and that knowledge is the only way to deal with all the complex situations of life. He exemplified positive qualities like kindness, respect and resilience serving as a model for how to navigate life’s challenges with grace. Apart from his wisdom and values, my father carried a great sense of humour. His ability to find joy and laughter in everyday situations taught me not to take life too seriously. His laughter and humour had been a source of comfort during challenging times. I loved the way he softly balanced family and life, even though it pushed so many difficult situations in front of him. He never broke, instead, he got stronger and responsible enough to handle these things, so that the bad situations did not reach out to us. My Father’s Relationship with my Mother: A good father is a source of inspiration and self-restraint. A good mother is the root of kindness and humbleness. Parents aren’t the people you come from. They’re the people you want to be, when you grow up.” I learned so many things about a true love & real meaning of marriage from both of my parents by observing, watching and learning from their pious relationship. My father and mother were bonded by infinite & immortal love, respect and a deep understanding of each other. That’s why they both left to heavenly abode together. Attained Moksha: He spent his whole life as a saint by chanting the mantra,’ Oum Namah Shivai’ of Almighty God Shiva as he was the true & pure disciple of God Shiva. He didn’t believe in any cast, colour and creed. He always told me that everyone is the child of Almighty God. When the God has not created any difference among all human beings, then who are us to do so. Bas ache karm karte jao aur Ishwar ka Dhanyawaad karo…… Wo jo Karega ache ke liye Karega and ultimately, he attained moksha by merging into five elements through various paths like good karmas (action), jnana (knowledge), and Bhakti (devotion) on 8th January, 2025. Dear & respected father You also fulfilled the significant & pious role of attaining Moksha by passing away peacefully and is now residing in the heavenly abode with your best half. May Almighty GauriShankar bless peace & Moksha to both of you in his divine feet in the heaven. “Your wisdom and love continue to shape our lives. You may be gone but never forgotten.” |
