IIM Jammu inaugurates Management Development Program

JAMMU, June 18: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu inaugurated a three-day Management Development Program titled "Generative AI Fundamentals for Leaders" from 18th to 20th June 2025, under the aegis of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Held at the Vedanta MDP Centre, IIM Jammu, the program aims to equip officials with critical insights into Generative AI and its transformative role in leadership, governance, and decision-making. The inaugural session was graced online by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with a lamp lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome address. Present on the occasion were Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research; Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics; Prof. Sanjeev Pathak, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE&C); and Dr. Pratik Maheshwari, Co-Chairperson, EE&C, IIM Jammu. The training program witnessed participation from 30 participants representing various Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) across India.
Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, addressed the participants virtually, emphasizing the importance of AI literacy for senior government officials in today's rapidly evolving digital landscape. He highlighted that as India moves towards becoming a digitally empowered knowledge economy, public enterprises must leverage AI to enhance governance, operational efficiency, and citizen-centric service delivery. He encouraged participants to make the most of the three-day training program through active engagement and peer learning. He reaffirmed IIM Jammu's commitment to delivering cutting-edge, policy-relevant education to meet today's challenges. He also welcomed attendees to experience the academic vibrancy of Jammu-home to three Institutes of National Importance, AIIMS Jammu, IIM Jammu and IIT Jammu-and seek blessings at the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
Shri Kranti Kumar, Assistant Director, Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Ministry of Finance, Government of India highlighted the department's continued efforts in strengthening capacity-building initiatives for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). He noted that this training aligns with DPE's broader vision to prepare public sector leaders for digital transformation and innovation. He urged participants to derive maximum benefit from the sessions and apply the knowledge to drive change within their organizations.
Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty & Research, IIM Jammu, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in public sector leadership and the need to stay ahead in the digital curve. He noted that the training program offers a timely platform for immersive learning, collaboration, and practical insights, while also encouraging participants to explore the region's academic, cultural, and spiritual richness.
Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics. IIM Jammu underlined India's national mission on AI and IIM Jammu's contribution through capacity-building initiatives in frontier technologies. He emphasized the need to bridge knowledge gaps between academia and government by applying AI use cases across sectors for efficient public service delivery.
Prof. Sanjeev Pathak, Chairperson, EE&C, IIM Jammu, highlighted the Institute's Executive Education and Consultancy efforts and the transformative potential of AI. He encouraged participants to fully utilize the program for personal and professional growth, viewing it as a valuable steppingstone toward future success.
Dr. Pratik Maheshwari, Co-Chairperson, EE&C, IIM Jammu, welcomed participants and emphasized the role of Generative AI in enabling evidence-based governance and policy formulation. He introduced the concept of prompt engineering and encouraged active participation in group activities and assignments to maximize learning outcomes.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Pratik Maheshwari, Co-Chairperson, EE&C, IIM Jammu. The event culminated with the National Anthem. A guided tour of IIM Jammu's state-of-the-art campus infrastructure was also organized prior to the inaugural ceremony. The program, conducted under the Executive Education and Consultancy wing of IIM Jammu, features interactive sessions designed to foster practical insights, peer learning, and real-world applications of Generative AI in governance.
