Week-long Activities organized at GDC Thannamandi

Thannamandi, June 22: In a spirited celebration of the International Yoga Day, Government Degree College Thannamandi organized a series of engaging and meaningful activities throughout the week starting from Monday, June 16, 2025. The events were conducted under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmed, with active participation from the NCC and NSS Units, faculty members, and students of the college. The week-long celebration commenced with a Yoga Pledge Ceremony and Yoga Practice Session at the college sports complex, emphasizing the importance of physical and mental well-being through yoga. Throughout the week, the college community took part in several events, including: Daily Yoga Sessions led by the Chief Librarian Mr Anuj Bali, Poster-Making and Essay Writing Competitions on the theme “Yoga for Health” and Group Discussions highlighting the holistic benefits of yoga.
The grand finale was held on June 21st at the college badminton ground, where a large yoga demonstration led by instructor Mr Mehtab Khan was conducted. Students, faculty, and staff—along with members of the NCC and NSS Units performed a collective yoga session in unison, symbolizing unity, discipline, and wellness. The successful execution of the week-long activities was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the organizing team, which included: Dr Ashaq Malik, Dr. Nazaqat Hussain, Dr. Gulshan Rashid, Mr. Anuj Bali, Dr. Altaf Hussain (NCC Officer), Prof. Supriya Gupta, Prof. Fatima Parveen, Dr. Ashraf, Mr. Paramveer Singh, Mr. Zabar, and Mr. Shafqat Shabir. On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmed addressed the participants, stating, “Yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a philosophy of life that brings harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. Such events instil discipline and promote a healthy lifestyle among our youth.”
