Early Times Report

UDHAMPUR, June 26: To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking District Administration Udhampur in collaboration with Department of Social Welfare today organized an impressive program aimed at sensitizing the public, especially youth about the ill effects of drug abuse and the importance of a drug-free society.
The event commenced with Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai participation in Signature campaign against Drug Abuse and flagging off an awareness rally on Drug Abuse Prevention.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth volunteers, officials and civil society members, all raising slogans and carrying placards to spread the message of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
The event featured captivating cultural performances including Nukkad Natak, a thought-provoking skit on Nasha Mukti and folk songs on drug addiction and the need for collective action.
While addressing the gathering, DC emphasized the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for the youth both at home and in society. She underlined the role of families in maintaining friendly and open communication with children to detect and prevent drug abuse at an early stage.
She further urged the youth to actively engage in recreational and extracurricular activities in addition to their academic pursuits to reduce mental stress and stay away from harmful influences. Stressing on the need for collaborative responsibility, the DC called upon the public to act as Brand Ambassadors in the fight against drug abuse by reporting instances of drug consumption and trafficking to the authorities so that timely and appropriate action can be taken. DC appealed to everyone to take a firm pledge to neither indulge in drugs themselves nor allow others around them to fall into the trap of substance abuse.
Department of Social Welfare felicitated all the participants from school and colleges as well as youth who had participated in month long run up events to International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking.
PO Poshan, Subash Dogra, GM DIC Kishor Kumar, ACD Ashwani Hansa, District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta along with other senior officers of the District administration were part of the program.
The event saw participation of more than 900 people including PLVs, representatives from Department of Youth Sports and Services, Health, Social Welfare, OSC, Hub, CHL Poshan, school and colleges and members of civil society.
