Early Times Report

Jammu, June 27: In a significant operation, Sopore Police arrested three individuals on Friday for their active role in aiding Pakistan-backed terrorists and engaging in anti-national activities.
The trio, identified as Irfan Mohiuddin Dar, Mohammad Asif Khan, and Gauhar Maqbool Rather, were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their persistent actions threatening the security and sovereignty of the Union Territory.
All three have been lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, following their arrest.
The accused were named as Irfan Mohiuddin Dar, son of Mohiuddin Dar, from Sangrampora, Sopore; Mohammad Asif Khan, son of Abu Rehman Khan, from Harwan Bomai; and Gauhar Maqbool Rather, son of Mohammad Maqbool Rather, from Hardushiva.
According to Sopore Police, the individuals have a history of involvement in subversive activities, with multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) previously registered against them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Despite facing prior legal actions and preventive measures, the three continued their covert operations, maintaining regular contact with Pakistan-based terrorist handlers. Police investigations revealed that they utilized encrypted Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) platforms and Virtual Private Network (VPN) systems to communicate securely with their mentors across the border. These banned electronic networks allowed them to evade detection while receiving instructions and coordinating a

tivities.
In addition to their communication with foreign handlers, the accused were actively involved in radicalizing and recruiting local youth into anti-national activities. Their efforts aimed to destabilize the region by promoting subversive ideologies and facilitating terrorist operations, posing a significant threat to public safety and national security.
The arrests followed months of meticulous surveillance by Sopore Police, who gathered intelligence and compiled detailed dossiers on the suspects’ activities. Based on this evidence, the competent authority issued detention orders under the PSA, enabling the formal apprehension of the trio. The operation reflects the police’s commitment to dismantling networks that undermine peace and stability in the region.
A senior police official stated, “These individuals were operating discreetly, using advanced communication tools to further their anti-national agenda. Their arrest is a critical step in curbing terrorist influence and ensuring the safety of the Union Territory.” The official added that investigations are ongoing to uncover any additional links or networks associated with the accused.
This crackdown is part of a broader effort by law enforcement agencies to counter terrorism and maintain law and order in Jammu and Kashmir. The detention of these individuals under the stringent provisions of the PSA underscores the authorities’ resolve to act decisively against those involved in activities prejudicial to national interests.
