Early Times Report

Jammu, June 30: In a remarkable display of patriotism and resilience, Kashmiri students returning from war-ravaged Iran were seen holding the national flag and chanting slogans in praise of the country, as they landed safely back in India under Operation Sindu — a large-scale evacuation mission executed by the Government of India.
The successful repatriation of over 1,300 students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in various Iranian cities marks a significant achievement in India's diplomatic and humanitarian outreach. Their return comes amidst the backdrop of escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, which had sparked deep concern and fear among families back home.
The emotional scenes at the airports spoke volumes — students waving the Tricolour, raising pro-India chants , expressing gratitude to the nation and its leadership. These visuals are now circulating widely across the Kashmir Valley, leaving a powerful impression and serving as a symbol of renewed national connection among the youth.
“We never felt alone. From the moment tensions escalated, the Indian Embassy was in constant touch. The way we were evacuated with dignity and care makes us proud to be Indians,” said Uzma Khan, a medical student who returned from Tehran.
The returning students have vowed to share their experience with their peers, and many expressed their intent to spread a positive narrative about the country within the Valley — especially highlighting how the Indian government stood firmly by its citizens in times of crisis.
Observers believe that the emotional homecoming and the visible national pride among the students could reshape youth perception in Jammu and Kashmir. The success of Operation Sindu, many say, might emerge as a turning point in strengthening the emotional integration of the region’s younger generation with the rest of the nation.
Nasir Khuehami, national convenor of J&K Students Association, said, “From the very first response to the final leg of the students’ return to India, the care, coordination, and priority shown by the authorities were nothing short of exemplary”.
“The government of India has truly been a beacon of hope and reassurance to distressed families during one of the most turbulent periods. The students, who were studying in various Iranian cities, faced immense psychological distress due to the escalating tensions and prevailing uncertainty. Their safe return has brought much-needed relief, not only to them but also to their families. The tireless efforts of the Indian Embassy and the Ministry have provided immense solace to the affected families”, he said.
Families across the region have extended heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar for the timely and decisive response to their appeals. The coordinated efforts of the Indian Embassy in Tehran, alongside various ministries, ensured that students were brought home safely despite challenging geopolitical conditions.
“We are forever indebted to the government. They treated our children like their own and ensured their safe return when hope was fading,” said a relieved parent in Srinagar.
As Kashmir welcomes back its youth from the crossfires of international conflict, their voices are now resonating with pride, resilience, and a renewed sense of belonging — a sentiment that could echo for generations to come.
