Chenab Times Foundation to host Essay Writing Competition

Early Times Report
THATHRI, July 3: In a joint effort to encourage cultural introspection and academic expression, the Chenab Times Foundation, in collaboration with the Government Degree College (GDC) Thathri, has announced the organisation of an online essay writing competition centred on the theme of "Chenabi Identity."
The initiative seeks to engage undergraduate students in reflecting on the cultural, linguistic, and social uniqueness of the Chenab Valley, a region in Jammu and Kashmir often underrepresented in mainstream discourse. The competition is open to students enrolled at GDC Thathri, who may submit essays in English, Urdu, or local dialects such as Bhaderwahi or Sarazi. According to a statement issued by the Chenab Times Foundation, the competition is intended to "highlight the lived experiences, voices, and cultural memory of Chenabi people," and to promote community-rooted writing as a means of preserving regional identity. The topic or writing prompt will be announced after the interest submission deadline on July 3, and all submissions will be received in digital format. The top 10 essays will be selected by a panel of faculty members from GDC Thathri and will be published on TheChenabTimes.com, a digital platform focused on regional journalism and cultural reporting. In addition to publication, the selected students will be awarded Certificates of Appreciation. Notably, the organisers have also announced that all participants who submit valid entries will be acknowledged in a press release following the conclusion of the competition. The release will be circulated to newspapers and digital news portals across the Union Territory.
