Secretary MSME reviews industrial growth, MSME ecosystem in Ladakh

LEH, July 3: Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, Shri S.C.L Das (IAS), chaired a comprehensive review meeting in Leh to assess the current industrial scenario and the status of MSMEs in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The meeting focused on reviewing UDYAM registrations, the progress of industrial estates, existing policies, and various central schemes aimed at supporting Micro Small and Medium enterprises in the region.
Principal Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Shri Sanjeev Khirwar, (IAS) presented a detailed overview of the district-wise status of MSMEs , industrial infrastructure and existing policies (UT/ Central) level.
Discussions included reviewing UDYAM registrations, the progress of industrial estates, PMEGP, PMFME, PM Vishwakarma, Industrial Development Scheme 2017, Weaver Mudra Scheme, Ladakh Sustainable Industrial Policy 2022-27, Ladakh Industrial Land Allotment Policy 2022-27, Ladakh Procurement policy for Micro and Small Enterprises, 2020, Ladakh Micro & Small Enterprises Facilitation Council Rules, 2023, RAMP and new central Sector Scheme for UT Ladakh (proposed).
S.C.L Das (IAS), suggested MSME schemes for upgradation of industrial estates and greenfield development of Industrial Estates. Pashmina Roving Centre established in the UT Ladakh under Sahyog scheme implemented by KVIC in which he has suggested to engage manpower from Ladakh with technical support from KVIC for running the centre.
In PMEGP Scheme he has mentioned that there is a provision of addition of new activity and suggested to propose activity specific to UT Ladakh. Keeping in view of short season he has assured that tool kit and e-voucher shall be given to the PM Vishwakarma artisans to the UT Ladakh on priority basis and Industries Department should motivate artisans for availing loan under the Scheme. He also highlighted the importance of digital platforms for vendor development, online dispute resolution, and legal support for MSMEs.
Recognizing the potential of traditional sectors, he suggested marketing support and packaging for wood carving, establishing a common facility center through KVIC, and promoting craft-based livelihoods such as spinning, weaving, and tent-making, especially for nomadic communities.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Ministry of MSME, KVIC, Director of Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh and the officers of the Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh.
