| KVK Reasi imparts Training on SHGs and Women Empowerment | | |  Early Times Report
REASI, July 3: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day training programme on "Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Women Empowerment" here today at Palma village in Reasi district of J&K which was actively attended by a number of rural women of the area.The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. The major objective of the programme was to create better understanding of important features, functions, income generation activities of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and strengthen the SHGs. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi started the programme with the warm welcome of participants. He explained the significance of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and discussed on the bye-laws of Self Help Groups (SHGs) formation, management and strengthening. He said that SHGs formation has an immense scope in hilly areas of Reasi distt. and can play a crucial role in empowering the rural women by developing entrepreneurial skills among themselves. He spoke in detail on women empowerment and elaborated various income generation activities among the SHGs through which they can raise their income and employment. He also spoke in detail on regular saving, record keeping, regular meetings, regular interloaning, linkage with banks, repayment ethics etc. He highlighted the homogeneity, fortnightly meetings and agri-entrepreneurship development for the significant impact of SHGs. He guided the participants on organic and natural farming for more farm returns by reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the quality of farm produce. He stressed on the value addition in spices and lemon grass oil especially in the monkey prone areas of the district. He also guided participants on packaging, labeling, branding and marketing of processed agro-products. He discussed on the value addition in seasonal fruits and vegetables. He also discussed on the preservation of fruits and vegetables to enhance their shelf life. During the programme quarries were raised by the trainees which were answered by the scientist in a satisfactorily way. Participants thanked KVK Reasi for organising such a useful programme and promoting the income generation activities among the SHGs. The programme was concluded by Manohar Lal with the formal vote of thanks. |
