Why future-focused education must align with fast-changing job markets
Vijay Garg7/3/2025 10:43:35 PM
With digital disruption reshaping industries, India’s skilling ecosystem must evolve rapidly. Industry-academia collaborations are paving the way for real-world, job-ready education pathways for students across the country.
What makes hands-on learning critical for career readiness today?
With digital disruption reshaping industries, India’s skilling ecosystem must evolve rapidly. Industry-academia collaborations are paving the way for real-world, job-ready education pathways for students across the country.
As artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data science continue to transform industries, the demand for a future-ready workforce has never been greater. Yet, academic curricula often lag behind rapid technological shifts. To truly prepare students for tomorrow’s jobs, education must evolve in collaboration with industry.
“Emerging technologies like AI and cloud computing are not just reshaping businesses; they are redefining job roles altogether,
Curricula must be designed in close alignment with industry so students master new technologies instead of being overwhelmed by them.”
NEED FOR INDUSTRY-ALIGNED LEARNING
It’s not enough to simply update academic content — institutions must anticipate how work is changing and prepare students accordingly.
“Educators must go beyond content revisions,” Jathar emphasises.
They need to provide learners with tools and experiences that reflect real-world work environments.
That includes hands-on projects, simulations, and case-based learning designed to foster critical thinking and adaptability.”
The Power of Industry Networks in Shaping Careers
Internships and project-based experience have become key differentiators in today’s competitive hiring landscape. Employers increasingly expect graduates to be workplace-ready from day one.
“The old model of hiring and then training is giving way to ‘source-train-hire’ approaches,” explains Jathar. “Internships help build credibility, confidence, and practical skills that lead to full-time roles.”
While such opportunities are more common at the postgraduate level, Jathar believes it’s time to institutionalise them across undergraduate programs as well.
ONLINE AND BLENDED LEARNING
Online and blended learning are no longer alternativesâ”they’re essential to scaling education in a country as vast and diverse as India.
“Blended learning makes education more accessible, especially when students are balancing studies with internships or part-time work,” Jathar says.
“It allows faster updates to content, real-time mentorship, and better tracking of learner outcomes.”
The result is a flexible, digital-first learning environment that supports skill acquisition aligned with real-world needs.
BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE
While many undergraduate programs focus on theoretical knowledge, the missing link is often real-world application. Jathar points out that stack-based, modular learning beginning with foundational skills and advancing to specialisation”combined with structured internships, creates more job-ready graduates.
“This approach allows students to build a portfolio, gain work experience, and develop soft skills alongside technical ones,” he adds. “It makes the shift from classroom to career smoother, more guided, and rooted in practical readiness.”
SCALING FUTURE READY LEARNING ACROSS INDIA
Bringing such future-ready training to students across the country requires partnerships with both academic institutions and industry.
A fully online model helps scale without geographical limitations, ensuring a consistent, high-quality learning experience whether in a metro or a small town.
The idea is to build a workforce that is globally competitive and ready to adapt to future challenges.”
With a digital-first, industry-aligned skilling model, the pathway from student to skilled professional is becoming more accessible, inclusive, and impactful than ever before.
