Central University of Jammu signs MoU with Government Medical College

JAMMU, July 8: In a landmark step toward strengthening academic and research collaboration, the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu. The partnership is aimed at enhancing research output, fostering academic exchange, and promoting translational outcomes in the fields of molecular biology, diagnostics, and clinical medicine.
The Central University of Jammu has emerged as a premier institute of higher education and research, committed to academic excellence and innovation. Notably, the Centre for Molecular Biology (CMB) at CU Jammu is at the forefront of cutting-edge research focused on understanding, preventing, and curing human diseases through molecular approaches. The Centre aims to develop and provide advanced molecular diagnostics services, facilitating accurate disease diagnosis and personalized treatment strategies for public health benefit.
GMC Jammu, a leading tertiary healthcare institution in the region, is home to two premier research facilities - the Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) and the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU), supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India. These units are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and possess deep expertise in viral diagnostics, molecular oncology, and disease surveillance, significantly contributing to regional healthcare delivery.
The MoU aims to catalyze collaborative research initiatives that involve clinical study designs, data acquisition and analysis, and the implementation of molecular strategies for precision medicine. The agreement will foster joint academic programs, encourage cross-institutional faculty and student engagement, and drive interdisciplinary innovation for the betterment of healthcare and society.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, emphasized the strategic importance of collaborative and high-throughput research, stating that such partnerships are essential to translating research into societal benefit.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean, Government Medical College Jammu, welcomed the initiative and highlighted the immense potential of molecular diagnostics in advancing precision treatment and healthcare delivery.
The signing ceremony was attended by key dignitaries and senior faculty from both institutions, including Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar; Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha, Head ECE Department; Dr. Shelly Sehgal, Associate Professor, Centre for Molecular Biology, CU Jammu; Dr. Sanjeev Dhingra, HoD Pediatrics, GMC; Dr. Jyotsana Suri, HoD Pathology; Dr. Sandeep Dogra, HoD Microbiology; Dr. Seema, HoD Pharmacology; and Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, GMC Jammu.
