2 held for unauthorised excavation at graveyard | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 8: Police today arrested a contractor and a JCB driver for allegedly carrying out unauthorised excavation activity inside a graveyard in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to police, the incident occurred late on the night of July 7, around 11:50 PM, when local residents reported suspicious excavation at Shiapora village in Delina. using a JCB machine within the graveyard premises. Police responded swiftly, seized the JCB involved, and brought the situation under control. The contractor responsible for the excavation was immediately taken into custody. The driver of the machine, however, fled the scene after being confronted by an agitated crowd. Following sustained efforts by the investigation team, the driver was located and arrested earlier today. A case has been registered at Police Station Baramulla, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the full circumstances and accountability behind the incident. Police said they continue to maintain law and order in the area, with ongoing engagement with community leaders and active monitoring of digital platforms to prevent the spread of provocative or false content.
