Ex-Councillor Sahil Gupta extends support to protesting safai karamcharis of Bishnah Municipality
7/16/2025 7:48:13 PM

early times report

Bishnah, July 16: Former Councillor of Bishnah Municipality, Sahil Gupta, has come forward in support of the ongoing strike by the Chairman Safai Union Bishnah Sh Vikas Matoo urging the concerned authorities to seriously consider and address their long-pending demands. The sanitation workers of Bishnah Municipal Committee are on protest, demanding regularization of their services and a just hike in their salaries.
Sahil Gupta, while interacting with the protesting workers, said that the Safai Karamcharis are the backbone of the urban hygiene system and have been rendering selfless service for years. “These sanitation workers work day and night to ensure cleanliness in our locality. Their job is not only physically demanding but also essential to public health and the overall well-being of our community,” he said.
Highlighting the plight of these workers, Gupta stressed that despite their tireless service, they continue to work under contractual or temporary arrangements with meagre salaries and little job security. He called it unjust and inhumane, especially when the workers are fulfilling critical responsibilities that directly impact public welfare.
Gupta appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the Municipal authorities to immediately address the demands of the Safai Karamcharis. “Their demand for regularization is genuine and should not be ignored.
The former councillor also emphasized the need for a salary hike, pointing out that inflation and rising living costs have made it extremely difficult for low-paid workers to survive. “They deserve a respectable wage that matches the importance of the services they provide. Their patience should not be taken for granted,” he added.
Gupta urged the administration to initiate dialogue with the striking workers at the earliest and resolve the issue amicably. He also assured the protesting Safai Karamcharis of his full support in their struggle and said that he will raise the matter at every possible platform until justice is delivered.
Chairman Vikas Matoo , Sanitation Worker Akash Kumar and others also appreciated role of Sahil Gupta in Highliting the issues faced by them
