JAMMU, Jul y 16: A fresh batch of 6,064 pilgrims left here on Wednesday to pay obeisance at the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said. The pilgrims, including 1,511 women, left for the twin base camps of Nunwan-Pahalgam in Anantnag and Baltal in Ganderbal in two separate convoys under tight security arrangements. While 3,593 pilgrims are heading in a convoy of 139 vehicles for Pahalgam base camp, 2471 pilgrims on board 95 vehicles have preferred the Baltal route for their yatra. The 38-day annual yatra started from the two routes on July 3 and is scheduled to end on August 9, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival. Over 2.35 lakh pilgrims have so far visited the cave shrine housing the naturally formed Shivlingam. |
