7/22/2025 8:03:00 PM

early times report

Jammu, July 22: In response to growing concerns from the local population, MLA Bahu Ch. Vikram Randhawa today visited Govindpura (Satwari Cantonment) to take stock of the serious damage caused by the Landoi Choui Nallah, which is endangering the lives and properties of multiple families residing in the area.
MLA Randhawa was accompanied by SDM Manu Hansa, Tehsildar Arti Bhardwaj, XEN, AEE, and the concerned Junior Engineer (JE) from the Flood Control Department. Also present were Mandal President Ritika Dhiman, Advocate Jasmeet Kour Pandey, and local leaders including Avtar Singh(ex Sarpanch), Surinder Singh, Ashu Gupta, Sanjeev Gupta, Lucky Singh, Jasveer Singh, Rinku Singh, Santosh Singh, Baldev Singh, and Krishan Lal.
The team inspected the damaged banks of the Landoi Choui Nallah, where continuous water flow and erosion have weakened nearby structures. Locals expressed panic over the danger to residential buildings, especially as the monsoon rains intensify the problem.
MLA Randhawa and SDM Manu Hansa gave strict instructions on the spot to XEN and AEE to take immediate preventive and protective measures, including the construction of retaining walls, Crates, debris clearance, and technical surveys for long-term drainage and flood management.
The MLA personally assured the residents that their safety is the topmost priority and that he will follow up the matter with Divisional Commissioner and Chief Engineer (Flood Control) for early financial sanction and execution of protection work.
He further urged the engineering staff to remain vigilant and establish round-the-clock monitoring of the Nallah to prevent any mishap. The local community was asked to cooperate with the administration for faster execution of works.
“This is not just a civil work issue, this is a human concern. We will not allow any delay. Protection of life and property is non-negotiable,” said MLA Randhawa.
The visit not only highlighted the seriousness of the situation but also marked a firm administrative response, setting in motion immediate and long-term corrective actions to safeguard the lives and homes of Govindpura residents.
