Kalakote, July 26: NSS unit of GDC Kalakote in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department, Kalakote Range, organized a Plantation Drive under the guidance of worthy principal of the college Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza and vice-principal Prof. Himanshu Kumar with the nationwide theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and honoring motherhood through tree plantation.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, NSS volunteers and representatives of the Forest Department. The Principal of GDC Kalakote, along with the Forest Officer, inaugurated the drive by planting the first sapling in the college campus. Saplings of native and eco-friendly species were planted across designated areas of the campus.
The initiative emphasized the emotional bond between individuals and nature, encouraging each participant to dedicate a tree to their mother, symbolizing gratitude, life and sustainability.
The Forest Department provided technical support, saplings, and guidance on post-plantation care. The college’s NSS volunteers pledged to maintain and nurture the plants, ensuring their long-term survival. This collaborative effort not only contributed to local afforestation goals but also instilled a deep sense of responsibility among students towards environmental conservation and respect for nature.
The event witnessed the presence of other faculty members including Dr. Mohd Ali Shahbaz, Prof. Khalida Parveen (Former NSS PO) and Dr. Khursheed Ahmed. The entire programme was coordinated by NSS Programme Officer Prof. Davinder Singh."
