Thannamandi, July 26: A Tree Plantation Drive was organized today at Government Degree College Thannamandi in collaboration with the Forest Department, Rajouri, under the guidance of Dr. Farooq Ahmed, Principal, GDC Thannamandi, Naveed Iqbal, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rajouri, Maroof Shah, Range Officer, and Mohd Sadeeq, Block Officer. The program was coordinated by Dr. Ather Aziz Raina, Head, Department of Mathematics, and also conducted in collaboration with the NSS Unit of GDC Thannamandi. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq Ahmed emphasized the importance of environmental protection and encouraged the students to actively participate in forestation drive. Dr. Ashaq Malik Head of Botany Department, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the role of youth in combating climate change through ecological responsibility. Various saplings including Amla, Guava, Jamun, Chir Pine, Sukh-Chain and Bottlebrush etc. were planted in the college campus. The Forest Department ensured the availability of quality saplings and technical support for the drive. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members including Dr. Nazakat Hussain, Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Prof. Supriya Gupta, Dr. Gulshan Rashid Bhat Prof. Fatima Parveen, Librarian Anuj Bali, Prof. Rumy Dar, Dr. Nagina Kouser, Prof. Rizwana Kouser, Dr. Yasmeen Kouser, Dr. Shazia Poswal and Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, along with a large number of NSS volunteers and students of the college. The vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nazar Ul Islam, who appreciated the support of the Forest Department and the active involvement of the college fraternity.
