Early Times Report JAMMU, July 29: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, under the visionary leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) - the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, organized a seminar on "Standardization Activities in Services and Management Systems" at its Jagti campus. The seminar shed light on the crucial role of standardization in enhancing service excellence, strengthening governance frameworks, and improving management systems across sectors. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, scholars, and students of IIM Jammu. The program commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, followed by the rendering and video presentation of the Manak Geet, BIS's standardization anthem, setting the tone for the day's insightful sessions. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Jabir Ali Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu in presence of Prof. Rajesh Sikka, Co-Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu, Dharamsoth Santhosh, Scientist-D/Joint Director, BIS and Udham Singh, Deputy Director, BIS. Also present on the occasion were Prof. Sanjeev Pathak, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE &C), IIM Jammu and Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Co-Chairperson, Placements, Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Chairperson, MBA Healthcare, Dr. Archana Sharma, Chairperson, IPM, Dr. Anuja Akhouri, Chairperson, EMBA and Dr. Rambalaka Yadav, Chairperson, Doctoral Programme, IIM Jammu. Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu, remarked that BIS plays a leading role in setting standards, particularly in services and management systems. He underlined the importance of not only creating SOPs but also ensuring their standardization for meaningful impact. He noted that as a new-generation institution, IIM Jammu has the opportunity to contribute toward setting benchmarks in education and services. He expressed confidence that such initiatives would help improve institutional systems and lead to tangible outcomes that participants can implement in their respective domains. Prof. Rajesh Sikka, Co-Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE&C), IIM Jammu, in his opening remarks, emphasized the significance of standardization in a service-driven economy. He stated that in the current environment, setting standards in services is both critical and challenging. For a country like India, where the service sector contributes more than 55% to the GDP, the seminar by BIS is highly relevant. He stressed the need to leverage standardization effectively to meet rising expectations and improve quality across sectors. Dharamsoth Santhosh, Joint Director, Scientist - D/Joint Director, BIS, led engaging sessions offering deep insights into India's evolving standardization landscape. Key highlights included an interactive session titled "BIS: Don't You Know Me?", an overview of BIS's ecosystem, and informative discussions on current initiatives, best practices, and future directions in standardization for services and management systems. A live demonstration of BIS's digital platforms, including the e-BIS portal, further enriched the knowledge-sharing experience.
