Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, July 29: In a landmark initiative to promote rifle shooting, sportsmanship, and self-defence skills among the youth-particularly in border areas-the Baramulla District Rifle Association, in collaboration with the Akal Sport Shooting Academy, inaugurated a three-day Rifle Shooting Camp and Competition at Guru Nanak Dev Model High School, Baramulla. This initiative is expected to pave the way for more extensive outreach to schools in border regions, encouraging greater participation in shooting sports under expert guidance and institutional support. The camp was formally inaugurated by S. Jaipal Singh, President of the Baramulla District Rifle Association, under the esteemed patronage of S. Surinder Singh Sodhi, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association (JKRA). The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students across the district, alongside local youth participating in various shooting categories. Certified coaches have been deputed to ensure high-quality instruction and supervision throughout the three-day event. Speaking at the event, Shri Paramjit Singh, Vice President of JKRA, and Shri Sunil Mujoo, Secretary of the Baramulla District Rifle Association, praised the initiative for offering a healthy, competitive platform for the region's youth and for promoting a vibrant sports culture. Also in attendance were several prominent citizens and dignitaries from Baramulla, who extended their best wishes to the participants and organizers. The camp is being hailed as a positive and strategic step towards the district's commitment to fostering sports excellence, discipline, and youth empowerment. Sodhi noted that the opening of the new shooting range in Baramulla will be a great boost for youth in the border area, offering them world-class facilities and opportunities to hone their skills in a safe and structured environment. He said that the initiative is designed not only to identify budding sports talent but also to empower youth from border areas with discipline, confidence, and self-defence training. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, the JKRA team, and all stakeholders who supported the launch of this initiative-particularly Sh. Sharat Chander Singh, Sh. Rajesh Virdi, Sh. Mansotra, and other JKRA team members who were continuously ncoordinating with the District President and his team to make this possible.
