IITs Destined To Lead Charge | | | Recently Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha lauded the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for their exemplary contributions to nation-building and for developing remarkable scientific and technological capabilities over the decades, positively impacting lives worldwide. He emphasised on the fact that the science and technology are going to be the key drivers for Viksit Bharat and the country expects IITians to make it happen. There is no doubt about the fact that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous efforts are underway to provide facilities and resources to tech-entrepreneurs. PM Modi led government has made concerted efforts to nurture innovation by investing in research infrastructure, easing regulatory frameworks, and creating platforms for startups to flourish. Programs like Startup India, Atal Innovation Mission, and the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems are equipping young engineers and researchers—many of them IIT graduates—with the tools they need to transform ideas into impactful solutions. Today’s India offers better opportunities to IIT graduates than abroad and India is on path of becoming a hub of innovation. Crucially, India today is not merely providing opportunities—it is offering better and more meaningful prospects for IITians at home than abroad. The brain drain that once seemed inevitable is slowly reversing. Young minds are increasingly choosing to stay back, driven not only by improved economic incentives but by a sense of purpose and belief that they can be changemakers in their own land. The IITs have embraced this responsibility with renewed vigor. Many campuses have established cutting-edge research parks, incubation centers, and startup accelerators. Faculty and students are now actively involved in solving pressing national issues—be it climate change, health care delivery, clean energy, or digital inclusion. These institutions are no longer isolated academic enclaves but vibrant nodes in India’s innovation network. The vision of India becoming a global hub of innovation is well within reach. However, it demands sustained commitment—both from the state and society. The government must continue its support for fundamental research and ensure that India’s tech institutions remain globally competitive. At the same time, IITians must embrace the call to action. Their training, intellect, and leadership can be the driving force behind a transformative leap. As LG Manoj Sinha aptly stated, the country expects IITians to help build a Viksit Bharat. That expectation is not a burden but an opportunity—a chance to shape the future of a nation that is awakening to its true potential. The journey from developing to developed is underway, and IITs are destined to lead the charge. |
