Jammu, Aug 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for metro projects worth approximately Rs 22,800 crore in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and hailed the success of Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of New India's military strength and global stature. Prime Minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat trains today during the programme in Bengaluru. He flagged off Vande Bharat train Bengaluru to Belagavi, Amritsar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur to Pune. Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating the Bangalore Metro Yellow Line and flagging off three Vande Bharat Express trains, PM Modi stated, “The success of Operation Sindoor, the strength to destroy terrorist hideouts deep across the border, and the ability to bring Pakistan—who came to defend terrorists—to its knees within hours, is something the whole world has witnessed. This is the new face of India.” He credited the operation’s success to India's technological prowess and growing defence capabilities under the Make in India initiative, highlighting the role of Bengaluru and Karnataka’s youth in the achievement. Operation Sindoor, launched last month, was a cross-border counter-terror strike that drew international attention. During the visit, PM Modi inaugurated the 19.15 km Yellow Line of Namma Metro connecting RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, developed at a cost of Rs 7,160 crore “The success of Operation Sindoor, the strength to destroy terrorist hideouts deep across the border, and the ability to bring Pakistan—who came to defend terrorists—to its knees within hours, is something the whole world has witnessed. This is the new face of India.” He also laid the foundation stone for Phase-3 of Bangalore Metro—an over Rs 15,610 crore project that will add more than 44 km of elevated routes with 31 stations. The Prime Minister flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains: Bengaluru–Belagavi, Nagpur–Pune, and Amritsar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, enhancing regional connectivity. In his address, PM Modi reiterated India’s rise as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. "In the last 11 years, our economy has moved from 10th position to the top five. We are on track to become one of the top three economies,” he said. He underscored the importance of digital transformation, stating that the journey toward a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) will go hand in hand with Digital India. He also called for greater self-reliance in technology, urging Indian tech firms to focus on products that serve national needs while maintaining global standards. Calling for synergy between central and state governments, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of reforms at all levels. He cited initiatives like Jan Vishwas Bill, Mission Karmayogi, and the Aspirational Districts Programme, urging Karnataka and other states to adopt similar reform-driven approaches to governance. Dignitaries present at the event included Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Union Ministers Manohar Lal, H.D. Kumaraswamy, Ashwini Vaishnaw, V. Somanna, and Shobha Karandlaje. |
