Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 14: In a proud moment for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the nation, nine IAF officers have been conferred with the Vir Chakra, India’s third-highest wartime gallantry award, for their daring and precision-led airstrikes deep inside Pakistani territory during Operation Sindoor.
The decorated officers include the fighter pilots and mission commanders who executed high-risk air operations targeting terrorist headquarters in Muridke and Bahawalpur, as well as striking key Pakistani military infrastructure — marking one of the most audacious cross-border air offensives in recent times.
The Vir Chakra recognitions were announced ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, highlighting the extraordinary courage and professionalism displayed by the Indian Air Force in the face of hostile conditions and high-stakes targets.
According to official sources, the strikes carried out during Operation Sindoor were meticulously planned and surgically executed, dealing a significant blow to terrorist command structures and disrupting logistical support networks of groups responsible for orchestrating attacks against India.
Among the awardees are Group Captains, Wing Commanders, and Squadron Leaders who played pivotal roles in mission planning, aerial coordination, and target neutralization, operating state-of-the-art fighter jets under heavy radar surveillance and potential retaliation.
The Vir Chakra citations praise the officers for demonstrating “exceptional gallantry in the face of the enemy, unwavering resolve under fire, and outstanding operational skill that significantly advanced national security objectives.”
Operation Sindoor, widely regarded as a decisive and calibrated military response to cross-border terrorism, showcased India’s enhanced capability to strike terror infrastructure beyond its borders, and the bravery of the men who made it possible.
This prestigious wartime honor not only acknowledges their individual acts of valour but also reaffirms the strategic deterrence and offensive prowess of the Indian Air Force.
